Immigration and the Environment

Conservation of the environment is critical to quality of life of Maine citizens.  Maine’s natural beauty and open spaces are a result of a relatively low population density and a stable demography that sustains balance between the demands of a technologically advanced population and the carrying capacity of the local environment.  Immigration is a significant driver for population growth, congestion, and resource demand in Maine’s most populous cities.  A sustainable future cannot be achieved by unlimited or Malthusian population growth.  The citizens of Maine have achieved an organic balance, but current immigration policy undermines that balance, increasing the population without regard to environment.
